Manchester School District June 6, 2025 Student Facing Procedure Student Facing Grading Procedures will be housed in the student handbook. What is Assessment? Assessment means gathering evidence about how well you are learning and using that information to help you reach your full potential. Formative Assessment (Assessments for Learning): Formative assessments happen during learning. They are small checks that help both students and teachers see how things are going. These can be things like quizzes, class discussions, or even students checking their own or each other’s work. The goal is to give helpful feedback so you can understand what you need so your work improves. Formative assessments help you take charge of your own learning. Summative Assessment (Assessments of Learning): Summative assessments occur at the end of a unit or course. They demonstrate what you have learned and how well you understand the material. Summative assessments help teachers see evidence of you meeting the learning objectives. Late Assessments Assessments are required to be submitted on the date specified by the teacher. Late formative work will not be accepted for credit, only for feedback and/or to meet requirements for reassessment. If a student cannot complete a summative assessment by the assigned due date, the student must meet with the teacher before the due date. The teacher may then set an appropriate extension not to exceed 10 days. Reassessment A reassessment is the opportunity to redo summative work below 65%. ● Students will have 5 school days from receipt of the original grade, graded assessment (digital or physical copy), and feedback from their teacher to ask for a reassessment and create a plan. ● Students will have 10 school days from receipt of the original grade, graded assessment (digital or physical copy), and feedback from their teacher to meet with the teacher, and complete the reassessment. ● Students may complete a reassessment only after reteaching or relearning activities have been completed and after all related required assessments have been completed. ● If students achieve a competent grade of 65% or above on the reassessment, a 65% will be entered into Aspen to denote competency.
